Blue, Silver, Gold: what each tier includes

Since 2025 Casa Batlló sells in tiers, and the fine print matters: the famous dragon rooftop left the basic ticket. Thousands of visitors buy Blue expecting the scaled terrace and meet the notice at the door instead.

Ticket tiers 2026 (indicative online prices)
TierPrice fromIncludesBest for
Blue ~€29 General visit, smart audio guide, Gaudí Cube (immersive room). No rooftop Tight budgets; interior and façade are enough
Silver ~€37–39 Everything above + the dragon rooftop Most people: the terrace is the house's icon
Gold ~€43–45 Silver + AR tablet, Gaudí Dôme, the Batlló family's private rooms, priority entry Families with kids (the AR lands) and Gaudí devotees
Be The First / night visit varies 8:30 entry nearly alone · or visit + rooftop concert Early-bird photographers · atmospheric second visits

Indicative casabatllo.es prices with advance purchase; dynamic pricing can move them several euros up. Box office adds a surcharge.

The quick math: if you're paying Silver "for the rooftop", first compare with La Pedrera: for a similar price its chimney rooftop comes included in the general ticket and is every bit as iconic. Ideal: one house inside, the other from the street.

When to go and how to pay less

  • Buy 3–7 days ahead. Dynamic pricing rewards planning: the same ticket can cost several euros less than on the day.
  • First slot or Be The First (8:30). A near-empty house and low light through the façade gallery. The 11:00–17:00 stretch packs groups into the small rooms.
  • Last slot of the evening. Second-best, with Passeig de Gràcia lighting up as you leave.
  • Children and students: reduced rates and free entry for the youngest per casabatllo.es — bring ID.
  • Skip the box office: the on-site surcharge can reach several euros per person and the day's popular slots are usually gone.
  • City passes: some passes include or discount Casa Batlló — run the numbers in our passes comparison.

Getting there and what to pair it with

Metro: Passeig de Gràcia (L2 purple, L3 green, L4 yellow); the Carrer d'Aragó exit leaves you one minute from the façade. From Plaça de Catalunya it's a 10-minute walk up Passeig de Gràcia itself.

The perfect half day: Casa Batlló at opening, coffee in an Eixample passage, La Pedrera (5 minutes up the avenue) — and if Modernisme has you hooked, the whole block: the house shares its pavement with Puig i Cadafalch's Casa Amatller and Domènech i Montaner's Casa Lleó i Morera — the famous "Block of Discord", three rival architects on one stretch of street.

The dragon house (context in one minute)

In 1904, textile industrialist Josep Batlló bought an unremarkable building on Barcelona's most expensive avenue and asked Gaudí for something impossible to ignore. Gaudí didn't demolish — he transformed. Between 1904 and 1906 he turned the façade into a watery surface of trencadís and glass, the balconies into bone masks and the roof into a dragon's scaled back — hence the popular nicknames: "house of bones", "dragon house".

The most accepted reading is the legend of Sant Jordi (Saint George), Catalonia's patron: the dragon on the roof, the cross-topped turret as the plunged lance, the balconies as victims' skulls. Inside, nothing is straight: the communal staircase snakes like a spine, the light well grades its blues to distribute daylight evenly, and even the door handles are moulded to the grip of a hand.

UNESCO added it to the "Works of Antoni Gaudí" listing in 2005. Today it is privately run — hence the ticket tiers and dynamic pricing — and one of Europe's most technology-forward visits: an augmented-reality guide rebuilds how the Batlló family lived, room by room.

Does the basic ticket include the rooftop?

No. Since 2025 the dragon rooftop needs Silver or above. If the terrace is your goal, don't buy Blue.

What's the best time?

Opening or Be The First (8:30) to see it near-empty; the last evening slot as plan B. Avoid 11:00–17:00.

How long does the visit take?

1 h – 1 h 15 min with the audio guide; a bit more with the rooftop and Gaudí Dôme.

Is the night visit worth it?

As a second visit or a date plan, yes: rooftop concert with a drink included. To actually learn the house, go by day.
