Barcelona Day Tours reviews: pickup day trips, prices and what to know first

Verdict: convenient for cruise passengers and older travellers who want door-to-door pickup in groups of 4 to 12, but pricey next to the alternatives, with no company name on the site and terms that ask you not to post negative comments once a complaint is resolved.

Verdict: 6 out of 10

Barcelona Day Tours is an agency with an office on Rambla de Catalunya that sells semi-private and private minivan tours: Barcelona, Montserrat, Girona, the Costa Brava and the Dalí Museum, with pickup from your hotel, the cruise terminal or the airport. Logistics are its strength and what customers praise most. It loses points on price (you pay well above a group tour), on how little it tells you about who is behind it, and on a clause in its terms that, in our view, makes its public reviews less useful.

Barcelona Day Tours score by criterion
CriterionScoreWhy
Price and transparency6/10Per-person price includes pickup, but no company name and several possible names on your card statement
Flexibility7/10Full refund with 48 h notice, and no charge if your flight or cruise is cancelled
Public reputation6/10Thousands of Tripadvisor reviews, but no readable average and a clause that discourages negative reviews
Experience6/10Pickups and small groups are well liked; some customers miss real guiding
Reliability5/10A physical office and years of trading, but no legal entity or registration number published
Overall score6/10Mean of the five criteria, rounded to 0.5

Who it suits

  • ✔ Cruise passengers who want to leave the port and get back on time without arranging transport.
  • ✔ Older travellers or people with limited mobility: there is a private tour designed for mobility-scooter users.
  • ✔ Groups of 8 to 12, who get a separate driver and guide.

Who should skip it

  • ✘ Anyone after the cheapest Montserrat trip: a group tour costs less than half.
  • ✘ Anyone who wants an in-depth guided visit inside Sagrada Família: the ticket is extra and the driver cannot guide inside.
  • ✘ People who often cancel at the last minute: the free window is 48 hours, not 24.

What it sells and what it costs

Barcelona Day Tours doesn't sell on GetYourGuide, Tiqets or Headout, so there is no identical product to compare. What we can do is put it next to similar trips on those platforms. They are not the same: group size, pickup and inclusions vary.

The good and the bad

The good

  • Door-to-door pickup. Hotel, port or airport, and drop-off wherever you like at the end. Reviewers mention it more than anything else.
  • Built for cruise days. No charge if your ship doesn't dock or your flight is cancelled, and you can bring luggage on the city tour.
  • Small groups. Four to 12 people on semi-private departures.
  • Responsive office. Reviews describe staff who answer quickly and adjust timings.
  • Service guarantee. It promises up to 50% back if you are unhappy with the service.

The bad

  • Price. A Montserrat half day at €85 against group tours from €35.
  • The driver is the guide. In groups of 7 or fewer one person drives and explains; several reviews describe a "glorified taxi" with little content.
  • No Sagrada Família interior. The ticket is extra, and staying outside is a recurring complaint.
  • Traffic. Some delays during pickups and drop-offs.
  • Transparency. No legal name, no registration number and a clause asking customers not to post negative comments.

Fine print

  • Cancellation: full refund with at least 48 hours' notice; under 48 hours you are charged in full, per section 18.1 of its terms. No refunds once a tour has started, and third-party tickets may be non-refundable.
  • Currency: refunds are for the original amount in euros, so if you paid in another currency the exchange rate may leave you with less.
  • Flights and cruises: no charge if your flight is cancelled or your ship doesn't dock, according to its tours page.
  • Tips: prices are per person and exclude tips.
  • Accessibility: there is a private tour for mobility-scooter users and people with limited mobility; ask for details before booking.
  • Guiding: an English-speaking driver-guide for groups of 7 or fewer; a separate driver and guide from 8 people.
  • Monuments: inside Sagrada Família, Park Güell and other BCIN-listed monuments only a guide with the Generalitat's qualification may guide; a driver without it can only explain outside or in the van.

Traps and how to avoid them

The review clause. Section 10 of its terms asks you to report any problem by email, allow 7 business days for a fix and, if it is resolved, "refrain from publishing any negative comments". Bear that in mind when reading its reviews: customers whose complaints were settled have agreed not to talk about them in public.
"Montserrat admission included". The Montserrat page says so, but entry to the basilica is free. What costs money there is the rack railway or cable car, the museum and Black Madonna access; on this tour you drive up by road and fast-track basilica access is optional. Ask exactly what is included.
A different name on your card. The charge may appear as Top Day Tours or Spain Day Tours. It isn't a mistake: keep your confirmation so you can match it.
ASTA doesn't regulate agencies in Catalonia. The site calls it the governing body for tour operators worldwide, but it is a US trade association. In Catalonia, agencies register with the Generalitat's tourism register.
Seven people versus eight. With 7 or fewer the driver is also your guide; from 8 there is a separate guide. If commentary matters to you, ask which you will get.

How to book for less

Coming off a cruise ship? Booking direct makes sense. Its cancelled-flight and missed-port policy and the port pickup have no exact match on the platforms. Book on barcelonadaytours.com and get written confirmation of which tickets are included.

Watching the budget? Compare. For Montserrat with cava and pickup, GetYourGuide has a cava-winery trip with pickup from €95; without pickup, the small-group half day from €35.10 or Julià's rack-railway tour from €52.80. Many platform listings allow free cancellation up to 24 hours before; check each one.

Girona and the Costa Brava. Ask for a quote and compare it with the small-group tour with pickup from €98.50.

Sagrada Família on your own. The official ticket starts at €26, or €30 with an official guided tour; see our guide. For more ideas, read day trips from Barcelona and our Montserrat guide.

Frequently asked questions

Is Barcelona Day Tours legit?

It operates from an office at Rambla de Catalunya 15, has Tripadvisor reviews going back to 2011 and thousands of them in total. On the other hand, its website publishes no legal name or agency registration number, and the charge may appear under other names. It is a real service with weak spots on transparency.

What does its clause on negative reviews say?

Section 10 of its terms asks you to report any problem by email and wait 7 business days. If the complaint is resolved, the customer agrees to refrain from publishing negative comments about the company. Keep that in mind when you weigh its reviews.

Can I cancel a Barcelona Day Tours trip?

Yes, with a full refund if you give at least 48 hours' notice. Under 48 hours you pay in full, and there are no refunds once the tour has started. If your flight or cruise is cancelled, there is no charge.

Is Montserrat admission included?

Its page says so, but the Montserrat basilica is free to enter. What costs money is the rack railway or cable car, the museum and Black Madonna access. On this tour you go up by road in a minivan, and fast-track basilica access is optional.

Barcelona Day Tours or Julià Travel?

Julià is far cheaper (Montserrat from €62 on its own site), but it leaves from Estació del Nord on a big coach. Barcelona Day Tours charges €85 for a half day with hotel or port pickup and groups of 4 to 12.

Do they pick up from the cruise port?

Yes. Pickup from hotels, the cruise port and the airport is included on its semi-private and private tours, and they drop you wherever you like at the end.

Why is there a different name on my card statement?

According to its terms, the payment may appear as Top Day Tours, Spain Day Tours, Barcelona Day Tours or PayPal. Any of those names matches your booking.
