Devour Tours Barcelona reviews: tapas tours, prices and whether they are worth it

Verdict: polished, highly rated food tours with small groups and free cancellation up to 24 hours ahead, but pricey (€93–199), limited for vegan or gluten-free diets, and run by a Madrid-founded brand that now belongs to an international group — 7.5/10.

Verdict: 7.5 out of 10

Devour Tours is not a Barcelona company. It started in Madrid in 2012 as Madrid Food Tour, founded by Lauren Aloise, James Blick and Alejandro Cabrera, and opened in Barcelona in 2014. According to secondary sources it joined the City Experiences and Walks portfolio around 2021, and its website footer now says it is part of Hornblower Group. Barcelona is one branch of a brand that operates in several countries.

That said, the product works. Its flagship tapas tour scores 4.8 on its own site from more than 1,100 ratings, and the Devour listing on Tripadvisor sits around 4.9 from roughly 3,800 reviews. Expect groups of 8 to 12, family-run bars and a guide who mixes food with history. What holds the score back is price, limited options for some diets and a few quirks on its website worth knowing about.

Good fit for

  • First-time, food-curious visitors with a decent budget who want someone else to pick the bars.
  • Travellers who value small groups (12 maximum on the flagship, 8 at the Supper Club).
  • Vegetarians: the company says it caters well for them.
  • Anyone who wants free cancellation without going through a platform.

Not for

  • Tight budgets: well-rated tapas tours cost a good deal less.
  • Vegans, coeliacs or people with severe allergies: options are limited.
  • Wheelchair users or families with a stroller: the flagship tour is not suitable.
  • Anyone set on a business that was born in Barcelona.

What it sells and what it costs

Devour tours in Barcelona (official price per person)

Barcelona Tapas, Taverns & History (evening)€933.5 h124.8 (1,117)
Ultimate Barcelona Food Tour (market)€993 h124.7 (427)

The Supper Club: Barcelona€1993 h84.8 (396)
Premium Montserrat & Cava Winery Day Trip€1797 h155.0 (71)

The flagship includes more than ten tapas across three bars, five drinks (cava and vermouth among them) and a 45-minute history walk, covering about 1.5 km on foot.

The honest maths: we did not find Devour on GetYourGuide, Tiqets or Headout, so there is no like-for-like comparison. What GetYourGuide does have is tapas tours from other companies, at noticeably lower prices:

Devour vs similar tours from other companies
Tour typeDevour (own site)On GetYourGuide (other operators)
Old-town tapas with history€93from €52.80 (4.8, 5,500+ reviews) · from €71.10 (4.9, 2,600+)
El Born tapas€93from €71.10 (4.9, 770 reviews)
Market and cooking€99paella class + Boqueria from €59.25 (4.8, 4,300+)
Montserrat with a cava winery€179from €95 with pickup (4.7, 252 reviews)

These alternatives are not identical: the number of stops and drinks and the group size all vary, so compare what each listing includes. Even so, the gap on a tapas tour is €20–40 per person. What the extra money buys at Devour is a brand with very well-oiled processes, groups of 12 at most and clear cancellation terms.

The best and the worst

Patterns that recur in public Tripadvisor reviews and in the ratings on its own site.

The best

  • The guides, the highest-rated part (4.9 on its site): reviewers like that they know as much about history as about food.
  • The bars: reviewers praise the family-run venues.
  • The mix of food and history, which turns dinner into a walk with a story.

The worst

  • More walking than some people expect from a tapas tour.
  • Too much food: leaving very full is common.
  • Special diets: occasional complaints about limited options.
05 —

The small print

  • Cancellation (policy updated in May): full refund or travel credit if you cancel more than 24 h ahead. Within 24 h, if you arrive late or do not show up, there is no refund.
  • Groups of 10 or more and private tours: refundable only if you cancel 7 days ahead.
  • Diets: vegetarian is fine; vegan, gluten-free and severe allergies have limited options. Flag it when you book.
  • Children: its FAQ calls the flagship manageable for most families, but there is no child price: children pay the adult rate.
  • Accessibility: the flagship is not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers.
  • Tipping: the company says nothing about it; it is not required.
  • Group size: its 8–12 person groups sit well under the 20-person cap in force in Ciutat Vella (Gothic Quarter and El Born) since 1 March 2023. Private groups of 11–40 have to be split there into groups of no more than 20, and megaphones are banned.

Traps and how to avoid them

Prices in dollars. The website shows USD by default ("from $111" on the flagship). Switch the currency to euros before you compare or pay, so your bank's exchange rate holds no surprises.
The flagship's FAQ has errors. It mentions "tapas bars in Madrid" and gives a different number of tapas and drinks from the tour summary. Trust the summary block (10+ tapas, 3 bars, 5 drinks) and ask if in doubt.
The 7-day rule for groups. Book as a single party of 10 or more (two families together, say) and you lose the 24-hour cancellation: it becomes 7 days.
Wanderbeak is not what it was. If you were looking for Wanderbeak's tapas tours, another Barcelona food company: its website now redirects to Elysian Tales, the brand its founder relaunched it as in 2024, which only offers a private four-stop luxury dinner with hotel pickup and no price on its static pages. The old group tapas tours are gone.
A food tour is not a bar crawl. Organised alcohol routes ("pub crawls") are banned in Ciutat Vella from 23:00 to 07:00, a rule extended to 2028. If you buy a bar route in the centre, check the timings carefully.

Frequently asked questions

Is Devour Tours legit?

Yes. It has been running since 2012, in Barcelona since 2014, publishes its cancellation policy and is part of Hornblower Group. On Tripadvisor it sits around 4.9 from roughly 3,800 reviews.

Is Devour a Barcelona company?

No. It was founded in Madrid in 2012 as Madrid Food Tour and arrived in Barcelona in 2014. Today it is a multi-country brand within Hornblower Group.

How much is Devour's tapas tour?

Barcelona Tapas, Taverns & History costs €93 per person on its site, for 3.5 hours with 10+ tapas and 5 drinks. Note that the site shows dollar prices by default.

Can I cancel?

Yes, with a full refund or credit up to 24 hours ahead. For private tours and groups of 10 or more the window is 7 days. Inside that window, or if you do not show up, there is no refund.

What happened to Wanderbeak?

Its website now redirects to Elysian Tales, the brand its founder relaunched it as in 2024. It no longer runs group tapas tours, only a private luxury dinner with hotel pickup.

Guided tapas for less?

If Devour is over budget, there are old-town tapas tours with 2,600+ reviews and a 4.9 rating from €71.10.
