Fat Tire Tours Barcelona reviews: prices, who runs it and whether it is worth it

Verdict: a US bike-tour brand, now owned by Unlimited Biking, with clear prices and full refunds up to 24 hours ahead, which in Barcelona operates out of a local shop under another name (Green Bikes Tours, Escudellers 48); perfectly decent, but no cheaper than the locally run outfits — 7/10.

Verdict: 7 out of 10

Fat Tire Tours is a bike-tour brand well known to North American travellers, with tours in several European and US cities. Today the brand belongs to Unlimited Biking, a US company: the website footer reads "© 2026 Fat Tire Bike Tours", but the sales contact is an unlimitedbiking.com address with US and Paris phone numbers, and the operator directory Magpie lists it as "Unlimited Biking (Formerly Fat Tire Tours)". So this is not a Barcelona company. Its Barcelona tours leave from a local shop in the Gothic Quarter with a different name, Green Bikes Tours at Carrer dels Escudellers 48, which is where you report on the day.

None of that is a problem in itself: the terms are clear, refunds are full up to 24 hours ahead, and groups are capped at nine per guide. But there is no price reason to choose it over local operators either, and its Barcelona reputation is hard to measure because the Tripadvisor listing has been renamed.

Fat Tire Tours Barcelona score by criterion
CriterionScoreWhy
Price and transparency7/10Published prices (€35–55 for group tours), but brand and departure shop don't match, and tips and water are extra.
Flexibility8/10Free changes and a 100% refund up to 24 hours ahead, per the tour page.
Public reputation6/10No readable Barcelona-only rating: the Tripadvisor listing now appears as Unlimited Biking.
Experience7/10Guides praised for humour and knowledge; bike condition was the historical weak spot.
Reliability7/10A veteran brand with a company group behind it; no Spanish entity or tourism registration published.
Overall7/10Mean of the five criteria, rounded to the nearest 0.5.

Who it suits

  • Travellers who have done a Fat Tire tour in another city and want the same format.
  • First-timers: the flagship is a roughly three-hour ride past the key sights.
  • Anyone who needs to be able to cancel: full refund up to 24 hours before.
  • Families with teenagers: e-bikes from age 14, under-18s with an adult.

Who should skip it

  • Travellers who want their money to stay with a local business: this is a US brand.
  • Anyone after offbeat neighbourhoods: Steel Donkey fits that better.
  • Price-only shoppers: three-hour highlights tours start at about €18–25 on the platforms.

Checked on the review date. The aggregator Magpie shows Unlimited Biking at 4.8–4.9 from tens of thousands of Google reviews, but those cover every city it operates in, so we do not use them as a Barcelona score.

What it sells and what it costs

The main product is the Highlights of Barcelona City Bike Tour: about three hours and roughly 11 km through the old town and the key sights, with a guaranteed maximum of nine guests per guide. It includes the guide, a bike (with an e-bike upgrade option), helmet, bag and map; tips and water are not included. According to the website it runs in English and, on some departures, in Dutch or German; for other languages they suggest a private tour. Groups of more than 15 are asked to email groups@unlimitedbiking.com.

The honest maths: GetYourGuide carries a tour called "Barcelona: Guided Highlights Bike or eBike Tour (3 Hours)", whose description refers to the "Highlights of Barcelona Bike Tour" with a maximum of nine guests; an Expedia listing with exactly that title names Fat Tire Tours as the provider and gives Escudellers 48 as the meeting point. If it is the same tour, on the review date it was cheaper on GetYourGuide (from €23.40) than on Fat Tire's own site (from €35). Two caveats: a platform's "from" price may apply to one date or option only, and the GetYourGuide data we work with does not name the supplier. Check the meeting point on the voucher before paying.

For the other tours we found no equivalent listing on GetYourGuide, Tiqets or Headout. As a benchmark, other operators sell a Montjuïc e-bike tour with the castle on GetYourGuide from €33.75 (4.8/5, 470 reviews), against €45 for Fat Tire's.

The best and the worst

These are patterns from public reviews (Tripadvisor, GetYourGuide and Unlimited Biking reviews that mention Barcelona). The volume of Barcelona-only reviews is smaller than for other operators, so read this as a trend.

The best

  • Funny, well-informed guides. The most common praise is the guide's humour and knowledge.
  • A lot in a short time. Highlights-tour riders like covering much of the city in one morning.
  • Clear rules. Cancellation and changes are spelled out on the tour page in plain English.
  • Contained groups. Nine per guide at most, well under the 20-person cap in Ciutat Vella.

The worst

  • The bikes, historically. Reviews from 2014–2016 mentioned worn bikes; those after 2018 mention better ones. Check brakes and saddle before you set off.
  • Brand confusion. You buy from Fat Tire and are met by Green Bikes Tours.
  • Extras. Tips and water are not included.
  • Mid-to-high price compared with local tours of a similar format.
05 —

The small print

  • Cancellation: the tour page offers "free changes and 100% refund up to 24 hours before tour". If you don't cancel in time you may forfeit the amount, and fare differences can apply to changes. If you book on a platform, that platform's terms apply.
  • Weather: the bike-tour page does not spell out a rain policy; ask when booking or check your confirmation email.
  • Age and minors: under-18s must be with an adult and carry ID. E-bikes require riders aged 14+. Riders must cycle independently, except children in a trailer.
  • Helmet: mandatory for under-16s; optional for adults, but included.
  • Tips: not included in the price; the tour page lists them as an extra, so they are voluntary.
  • Group size: nine per guide at most; groups of over 15 book separately.
  • Accessibility: no options for riders with reduced mobility are published.

Traps and how to avoid them

The brand is not the shop. You book with Fat Tire (Unlimited Biking), but the meeting point is Green Bikes Tours at Carrer dels Escudellers 48. Read the voucher, look for that name over the door and arrive 15 minutes early. If you can't find it, call +34 93 034 55 52, the number given on the tour page.
Escudellers is a narrow Gothic Quarter street. It runs off La Rambla next to Plaça Reial and is busy at all hours. Walk from Liceu or Drassanes metro (L3) rather than trying to get a taxi to the door. More context in our Gothic Quarter guide.
Same tour, two prices. The highlights tour costs from €35 on the website and was listed from €23.40 on the GetYourGuide listing that appears to be theirs. Compare on the day you book.
"Licensed" guide, no number. The tour page advertises a licensed local guide but publishes no accreditation number. In Catalonia you need no accreditation to guide in the street, but you do inside protected monuments such as the Sagrada Família. If you buy the Sagrada Família express tour, ask them to confirm the guide is accredited.

How to book at the best price

  • Highlights tour → check GetYourGuide first. The 3-hour listing started at €23.40 against €35 on the official site. Confirm on the voucher that the meeting point is Escudellers 48.
  • E-bike, night or private tours → official site. We have only seen those products on fattiretours.com.
  • Prefer a local operator? Steel Donkey charges €39 for four offbeat hours, and Barcelona By Bike charges €35 per person for groups of six or more from Plaça Reial.
  • Montjuïc without the climb. For the castle and viewpoints, compare the Montjuïc e-bike tour on GetYourGuide, and see our squares and parks guide if you'd rather go on your own.
